Performance and use

At roughly 30 cm wide by 18 cm high, the UEME Job Site DAB Radio is quite small, and it’s only really suitable for smaller worksites and workshops. It’s loud enough to be heard over power tools, but probably wouldn’t be suitable for a noisy building site.

This product generally feels quite tough and sturdy, except for the aerial which is quite fragile and easy to break. It’s best to avoid touching the aerial too much as it can snap off easily. Despite being fragile, the aerial works well and generally picks up a strong DAB signal.

One of the best things about this radio is that it has Bluetooth, so you can listen to podcasts and other audio from your phone while working. It only has a Bluetooth receiver, not a transmitter, so it can’t be used with Bluetooth headphones. If you want to listen to DAB radio through wireless headphones while at work there aren’t many options, but you could get some ear defenders with built-in DAB radio.

This radio can be plugged into the mains or used with four C-type batteries. The battery life is quite short, and the batteries might not last a full workday. This can be inconvenient and expensive unless you use rechargeable batteries. However, it’s quite normal for DAB radios to have poor battery life, so this isn’t a fault of this radio in particular.

This product is easy to use, and the compact and light design makes it easy to transport to different worksites.

Verdict

The UEME Job Site DAB Radio offers good value for money and would suit contractors, tradespeople and hobbyists who want something reasonably tough, portable and loud enough to be heard over power tools.

The main drawback to this product is the aerial, which is fragile and easy to break. However, this is one of the cheapest jobsite radios on the market, and one of the few to offer both Bluetooth and DAB radio, so it’s definitely worth considering.

One arguably higher-quality alternative product is the Makita DMR104, which is a rugged job site radio that has FM and DAB, but not Bluetooth. There is an aux-in port so you can connect a phone or other audio device via a cable.
