The Pure Siesta Rise DAB Alarm Clock is made by Pure, one of the top British radio manufacturers. It’s not a cheap product, but it has an attractive design and is backed by a 3-year warranty.

The radio offers both FM and DAB radio, and offers everything you’d expect from a clock radio including the ability to set multiple alarms and use snooze and sleep timers. Let’s take a closer look…

Features

  • Saves up to 20 preset stations
  • Set up to 3 different alarms, so you can have different alarms for weekends and weekdays
  • Auto-dimming display that dims at night (can also be adjusted manually)
  • USB port for charging a mobile phone or other device
  • Adjustable sleep and snooze timers
  • Uses a trailing wire rather than an extendable aerial

Dimensions: 13.7 cm deep x 14.1cm wide x 6.3 cm high
Weight: 522 g

Performance and use

Alarm

You have a choice of using either a radio station or a buzzer sound for the alarm, and you can set as many as three different alarms. The alarm sound gradually gets louder, which is a nice feature.

Display

The LCD screen has an “auto-dimming” feature, which means it responds to the amount of light in the room and automatically dims the screen at night. This is a good feature in many ways, but at times this makes the display unreadable, so you might need to resort to fixing the brightness manually at times.

Sound

The sound quality is good for a radio of its size, and the treble and bass levels can be adjusted. The speaker can also be turned up fairly loud, and also has a low minimum volume which is great for listening to at night without disturbing others.

USB port

One very useful feature is the USB port, which is handy for charging your smartphone overnight. Unfortunately you can’t stream music from your phone as the USB port is only for charging and the radio doesn’t have Bluetooth.

Pros

  • Stylish, elegant design
  • 3-year warranty
  • The alarm’s volume gradually increases
  • Easy to set up
  • Great sound quality for an alarm clock radio

Cons

  • USB port is only for charging, and can’t be used to stream music from your phone
  • Backlight can’t be completely switched off at night
  • Relatively expensive

Verdict

The Pure Siesta Rise Alarm Clock Radio is more expensive than many other alarm clock radios, but it has a sophisticated design and comes with a 3-year warranty. In contrast to all the cheap-looking portable DAB radios out there, the Pure Siesta Rise has a premium look and feel to it. If you don’t mind paying a bit more for the Siesta’s design and long warranty, this radio is a good choice.

Similar Clock Radios

Another popular clock radio from the Pure Siesta range is the Pure Siesta Mi Series 2. It usually sells for less than the Siesta Rise and some good features, but its sound quality is disappointing.

If your budget is tight, you might want to consider the Abbey DAB Bedside Radio, which offers similar features at a lower price.

If you’re willing to spend more for better sound quality, you should consider the Roberts CHRONODAB, which has a great range of features and impressive sound quality.
