Performance and use

This radio comes with a remote control that lets you quickly access your preset radio stations and operate the CD player. The remote control only works when you direct it straight at the machine, which can be awkward at times.

Like all the radios in Pure’s Evoke range, the C-D4 has a very stylish design. It looks and feels well made and high-quality.

The sound is crisp and clear with enough detail for you to be able to appreciate complex music. There’s a good level of bass, striking the right balance between being boomy and tinny.

This radio has Bluetooth so you can stream music from your phone or tablet through its high-quality speakers. It’s quick and easy to establish a Bluetooth connection.

Most functions on this radio are easy to use, and the instructions manual (available online here) is thorough and easy to follow.

This radio could be good for the bedroom as it has an alarm clock and a sleep timer that you can adjust from 15 to 60 minutes. You can dim the display, but unfortunately it’s still quite bight even on the lowest level.

The CD player is front-loading, so you slide discs into it. It can play CD-RW discs as well as regular CDs and CD-Rs, and it also has repeat and shuffle options.

Some buyers have had issues with the CD player stopping working properly, which is something to watch out for. It appears the C-D4’s CD player is relatively unreliable, though Pure offer a 3-year warranty so you should be able to get a replacement if you have problems with the CD player.

  • Compact space-saving design
  • Comes with a CD player, which is quite rare these days
  • Well built; feels solid
  • Looks stylish and elegant

  • Quite expensive
  • Some buyers have had issues with the CD player

The Pure Evoke C-D4 is a good buy if you’re looking for something that is more of a compact hi-fi rather than just a radio. It’s quite expensive, but has an aesthetically pleasing design and would look great in the bedroom or the kitchen.

There aren’t many products out there that combine an FM/DAB radio with Bluetooth and a CD player, but the Evoke C-D4 manages to do so in style. However, some buyers have had problems with the CD player which appears to be this radio’s Achilles heel.

  1. I managed to play a cd once on this and then it would not play again. I tried a number of different cds but it would just say reading. An extremely disappointing product.

  2. We have had 2 of these units just returned the 2nd as we found that the DAB radio played for 10 to 20 minutes and the switch to aux mode. This kept happening. We retuned and reset all the settings but still kept happening. So we are looking for a different CD player etc
